About UsHigh Plains Church, Unitarian Universalist was founded by a small group of hopeful people in 1994, mostly from All Souls UU Church in downtown Colorado Springs. They wanted to create a home for liberal religion in northern Colorado Springs, a place where people celebrated together regardless of creed, worked together for justice, learned and discovered the world together. Over the years, High Plains has met in many different locations, including storefronts, elementary schools, and middle schools. In 2007, we moved into a building of our own at 1825 Dominion Way. The church has grown in spiritual depth, impact in the world, and in numbers. High Plains Church has about 150 adult members, and 60 children and youth participating in our religious education programs. High Plains Church is a member congregation of the Unitarian Universalist Association. Unitarians and Universalists have been practicing their faith in this country for more than three hundred years, and Unitarians have a history in Europe that goes back to 1534. Our beliefs have changed and expanded over time, but we have always shared simple principles: that what is holy is one, that what is holy is Love, that each person is worthy and that each person has a responsibility to make up their own mind. We have always held that the proof of faith isn’t the allegiance to any doctrine, but is a life of good works. “What,” the prophet Micah asks, “does the Lord require of you but to do justice, love kindness, and walk humbly with your God?” We agree.
Our Covenant: Love is the spirit of this church, and service is its calling. This is our great covenant: to dwell together in peace, to seek the truth in love, and to help one another. Our Vision: One Mountain, Many Paths: Insight and Inspiration for Life’s Journey Our Mission: Building a liberal spiritual community that welcomes all to lives of wholeness |
